50 weeks - Big changes for all of us.

Well today was the big day... Mommy is officially back to work. Driving to my new job in my new car this morning I sort of felt like I was living someone else's life. I guess my new reality hasn't quite sunken in yet. It's been a great day for me though, everyone at my new company has been so kind and supportive which is making the transition much easier. As for Adrian, as predicted he did just fine. When I dropped him off in the morning and he saw the kids and big room of toys it was all I could do to pin him down long enough to say goodbye. I will admit to shedding a few tears as I was leaving but that was it and I was more or less emotionally stable for the rest of the day. (-:


Adrian had his 1 year old photos done last week (a bit early) and they are adorable. I have posted them in this month's photo album. The picture of him in the pot is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. The look on his face is one of pure confusion... wondering what that crazy Mommy is up to now.

We got our 'new' car (a beautiful white Subaru Outback) yesterday as well. A week full of changes for us. Adrian seems to like it as he has a better view with the bigger windows. And Barkley just loves having his own spot in the back as it is a hatchback. It should be a safer ride for us which is good. (Anyone want to buy a 2 door civic?)

Adrian has been talking up a storm lately. It's really funny to listen to him babble on and on and on. If only I could decipher what he was trying to say. He will respond to 'What does a duck say?' with 'baackk, baccckkk, baaack' (he hasn't mastered the 'Q' sound yet) which is pretty darn cute. Of course now that we know he can do that everyone is constantly asking him what a duck says... he must think we are pretty slow since we can't seem to remember for longer than an hour.

49 weeks - First Word? Who knows!

We have had a whole lot of summer fun with Adrian over the past week. We visited the wading pool in Wilmont Park a few days last week to try to beat the heat and Adrian just loved the water. He loves to watch people and there sure were a lot of them in the pool this past week with the heat. We even ran into Victoria Fairweather at the pool. Friday afternoon we went to the Country Pumpkin which was a ball of fun for Adrian. First we watched all of the animals in petting zoo. His favorite seemed to be the dirty old pigs. Adrian decided to try to touch the horse and his hand landed in the horse's nostril just at the horse breathed out. This totally freaked him out and he started crying. I think that is probably the first thing he has really been scared of to date. Let's hope he isn't scared of horses for the rest of his life now. Everything was much better once we made our way over to the ice cream bar. Adrian is an old pro at eating an ice cream cone even though that was only his second one ever. He doesn't stop eating until it is gone and then he keeps licking his lips for more. After the ice cream we went to the playground and wore off any sugar that was left in his system. It was a fun afternoon at the Country Pumpkin for all three of us!


We have kind of exciting news! Mommy is getting a new car. We are all very tired of getting Adrian in and out of the 2-doored Civic so we are getting a beautiful white Subaru Outback. Adrian will have an excellent view from our 4-door hatchback and Barkley will have his own space in the back which will be safer for everyone.

Adrian spent the morning at the babysitter's house for the first time alone today. He did really well and didn't even cry. He was a bit clingy for the rest of the day but all in all it was a success. When Mommy came to pick him up he was busy playing the tambourine which she found quite amusing. We go again tomorrow morning for one more dry run before next week.

Adrian really started babbling in a big way this week. If he sees Daddy walk by he will yell at the top of his lungs which is a new thing. It's really hard to judge when and what his first word is but it's looking like it is one of 'Hi', 'Dad', 'Uh-Oh', or 'Mom'. His endless chatter is too cute and Mommy can just sit and listen to it for hours. If only we knew what he was trying to tell us!

48 weeks - The countdown is on.

We have had a busy week. With Mommy going back to work in 2 weeks there is so much to be done! Most importantly we went to visit the babysitter and Adrian had a great time playing with the other kids. She fed him a nice healthy snack which is surely the way to his heart. Mommy is sure he will love his babysitter and will really enjoy interacting with other kids instead of just Mommy and Barkley all day long.


We finally got into the baby pool for the first time today. Adrian was happy in it for all of 2 minutes until he wanted to be climbing the deck railing and pulling out all of the potted plants. Sitting down just isn't his style at the moment. Oh well, it was a fun 2 minutes but unfortunately it didn't last long enough to get any pictures!

Adrian and Mommy went to Sara's house to visit on Sunday afternoon and Adrian got to meet Nance for the first time who came all the way from Calgary for a visit. Adrian soaked up all of the attention and ended his visit with a nice big meal. It doesn't get any better than that for him.

Adrian turned 11 months this past Saturday. Mommy's heart aches a little when she looks at pictures of her little tiny baby that is no more. The only thing that makes her feel better is to look at her thriving little boy who gets more lovely with every passing day. Just look at how big he is getting!

47 weeks - To Regina and back.

Adrian, Mommy, Grampy and Grammy U got back from Regina last night. It was a long trip but well worth it to see Uncle Brian become an official RCMP officer. We had a great time in Regina, although some of the days were pretty long and tough on us. Adrian as usual was a trooper though.


We had 10 hours of traveling in both directions. The plane didn’t seem to bother Adrian other than he is not a fan of sitting still for a few minutes let alone hours. We had a few stopovers and could usually find things to entertain him. There is an awesome tree house in the Halifax airport that he couldn’t get enough of.

The first time Adrian saw ‘Constable Underhill’ in his dress uniform he didn’t quite know what to think (then again, neither did anyone!). We watched Bri’s troop do their drill marching and Adrian really liked that. He would dance along to the beat of their marching and stare intently. He really likes to observe and try new things. He certainly got his fill in the past week!

All in all we had a great trip but we are very happy to be back home with Daddy and Barkley, and to be able to sleep in our own beds and eat normal food again. Feeding Adrian on the trip was a full time job! He seems to be a bottomless pit all of the sudden. But if you saw how very busy he is you would understand why.

We are going to visit the babysitter this week. Less than three weeks until Mommy goes back to work.

46 weeks - We suspected Walmart was evil....

Well for anybody that hasn’t heard about our fiasco at Walmart last week here is our story: Adrian and Mommy were at Walmart on Wednesday. He was in one of the buggies from the mall as that is his favorite ride for some odd reason. We were parked in the craft aisle and Mommy was a few feet behind the buggy looking at paper. Out of the corner of her eye she saw something slowly moving and the next thing she knows there is an 8 foot ladder falling directly towards the baby. It seemed like slow motion but of course she didn’t have time to stop it. It crashed down directly on Adrian’s head. There were a few seconds of silence, and those were the longest seconds of Mommy’s entire life as she could only see the back of his little head and the big ladder on top of him. She ran to the front of the buggy to get him and by that time the little guy was screaming. It gets kind of blurry from there on in but about 20 people swarmed around us. Adrian only cried for about 2 minutes after which time Mommy cried for many, many more. It seems there was a ladder just folded up leaning against a pole and it fell for no apparent reason. We went to the ER but by that time Adrian was happy again and the nurse assessed him and said she didn’t think there was a problem. So after 2 hours of waiting and not even getting out of the waiting room we left. Adrian only had a couple of bumps to show for the whole thing and seems to be his good old self. He certainly had a guardian angel looking out for him that day!


Adrian went to Doaktown to visit Nanny’s family on Sunday while Mommy and Daddy stayed home. It was his first extended outing without us and he felt like such a big boy going out on his own. Mommy was a little sad but she had better get used to it seeing as she starts work in exactly a month!

We have another exciting week ahead of us as we are traveling to Regina early on Thursday morning. Grammy and Grampie U and Tracey are all coming too! We are going to see Uncle Brian graduate from RCMP training and we are all oh so proud of him. We are pretty excited but not sure what the 10 hours of traveling and 3 hour time different will do to Adrian. Expect lots of fun pictures next week.

Last but certainly not least, Adrian and Mommy want to wish Daddy a Happy 31st Birthday. We have had a pretty wonderful year and can only hope the next one will be as great. We love you!!
