45 weeks - PEI: A little piece of paradise

After 5 days of the flu we were pretty happy when it passed and we were on vacation. We headed to PEI first thing Friday morning. Adrian slept until Moncton where we stopped and had lunch and did a bit of shopping, and then he slept all the way to our cottage in Winsloe. We received a warm welcome from all the kids when we arrived. There were five other families there with us with 9 other kids who just love ‘Baby Adrian’.

One of the highlights of our trip was going to explore at Brackley beach. Adrian just loved the feeling of the sand between his toes and although it wasn’t warm enough to swim he still tried to crawl out to sea many times. We laughed at his crawling trail in the sand and said it looked like a sea turtle had been there. On Canada Day we went into Charlottetown and explored the carnival and many kiosks set up. Adrian even met Anne of Green Gables! That evening we returned to Charlottetown for the fireworks. Adrian just loved them. Mommy was a little nervous waking him up from his sleep and dragging him in to the fireworks but he couldn’t have been a happier baby the whole time. He just stared up at the fireworks with his eyes as big as saucers and made a little noise every time a firework went off. It was such a perfect moment and not one that Mommy will ever forget.

Other than that we just hung out with our friends, ate lots of food, swam in the pool, played in the grass and enjoyed the campfires. Adrian was such a great kid the whole weekend (as were all of the other kids) that we have already decided to do it again next year. It hard to believe that when Daddy booked this trip last summer Adrian hadn’t even arrived yet! And to think next year we will have a toddler running around!! Yikes.

44 weeks - Flu :-P

Mommy and Adrian have both come down with the flu. It started on Sunday when we were in Stickney for the afternoon. Mommy got sick in the afternoon and then Adrian vomited in his car seat on the way back to Fredericton. What a mess that was. We must have looked like a sad little family along side the highway trying to clean a naked baby with baby wipes. It took Daddy a long time to get the car seat cleaned as he had to wash each little piece. I always remember asking my Mom how she could stand to clean up my vomit as a kid and now I know. There is really no way around it so you just do it. That and your attention is on your sick little baby, not the unpleasantess.

Adrian is much tougher than Mommy when it comes to being sick. He is his delightful little cheerful self while Mommy is... well... not. Here's hoping that this flu bug leaves our house very very soon!

It's the long weekend and we are getting ready for our first family vacation. We are going to PEI with 5 other families to spend the long weekend. We have cottages in Brackley beach. It's going to be so much fun. Expect lots of fun beach pictures next week. Let's just hope we are all back to 100% health by Friday. Mommy's head spins when she thinks of everything she has to pack between now and then.

Happy Canada Day everyone! Enjoy the sun!!

43 weeks - Crazy for the cupboards

Adrian has a new obsession this week... digging through Mommy's cupboards. He won't rest until all the contents of his particular cupboard of choice have been emptied. While it's a bit of pain to put everything back in, it does provide hours of entertainment. Who needs toys!?!

We had a great Father's Day weekend. Mommy and Daddy left Adrian for a whole 12 hours on Saturday, by far the longest outing to date. Adrian stayed with Nanny and Grampy Jones for the day while Mommy and Daddy went to Mommy's office golf tournament. I am trying to work up to leaving Adrian with the babysitter in a few weeks for our daycare 'trial'. For Father’s Day Adrian gave Daddy a new rain suit and Mommy helped him make a special card for Daddy.

These sunny days provide lots of opportunity for fun. We have been venturing to local parks whenever we can and plan on taking in the famous Wilmot wading pool now that it is open. Adrian loves being outside but sure isn't fancy on getting sunscreen applied. (But really, who is?).

It seems like Adrian does some new little thing every day. You have to wonder where he comes up with these things. He has created several variations on his wave lately. There is the open/close fist wave, the whole arm wave, the limp wrist wave, the double handed wave... etc. He also likes to take big huge gasping breathes now and is really excited if someone does it back to him. Ah, he sure is a curious little creature!

42 weeks - Fun in the sun

What a wonderful sunny weekend we enjoyed. That was a nice change of pace. Adrian got to wear many of his cute little short outfits that Mommy has been itching for him to model. She just can't get enough of those fat little thighs! We got in a few walks with Barkley, Melly and Grammy and even made it to the park.

Adrian has started to crawl on his hands and knees all of the sudden which seems to have come out of nowhere. Mommy is happy because his clothes get much less dirty than when he pulls himself along on his belly. He is all about climbing these days and it's a battle to get him to sit or lay down for any amount of time. Changing his diaper and clothes has become a bit of a battle.

Mommy and Daddy got to go on a date Saturday night while Nanny Jones babysat. It was fun being out just the two of us, but it sure felt wierd being without the responsibility of Adrian, especially at the restaurant where there was a baby sitting in a high chair beside us. A nice treat for Mommy and Daddy and Adrian had fun with Nanny as usual.

Grampy Underhill celebrated his 58th birthday this week and Adrian and Mommy went to Stickney to celebrate. Adrian enjoyed helping Grampy blow out the candles and was quite taken with the smoke afterwards. He put on quite a little show for all of our visitors as well. He certainly likes attention and gets plenty of it!

41 weeks - Dancing fever

Adrian is doing one of his cutest things to date... dancing. He really loves to bust a move to any music (including his sesame street guitar, advertisements on tv and lullabies). It's really funny because his little hips start shaking and he gets this intense look in his eyes and opens his mouth wide. He really likes to be on his tippy toes. He reminds me of a little Elvis, especially when he has his one piece sleepers on with the collar turned up!

Mommy's favorite new thing Adrian is doing is sleeping through the night! He usually sleeps from about 7PM to 6AM without interruption and has been for a few weeks now so we are hoping it is here to stay for a while. Mommy is back up to full sleep capacity and loving it.

Adrian is feeding himself all sorts of finger foods. Mommy is trying to cube up pretty much everything she can find. He is still eating like a little pig and there isn't a food he refuses, even beans and broccoli! His favorite new thing is cheese, and well who can blame him?

Only 2 more months before Mommy goes back to work. She is feeling very excited to start working again, especially since she has a new job at an exciting new company to look forward to. However she is getting increasingly anxious at the thought of leaving Adrian. Luckily we have secured a babysitter that we all feel very comfortable with and there will be a couple of other babies for Adrian to socialize with. Let’s try not to think about it for now! (-;
